Who is J.D. Davis

J.D. Davis is an Astros prospect currently playing for the Houston Astros Class-A Affiliate Lancaster JetHawks. He played first base at Cal State Fullerton primarily, but the Astros drafted him in the third-round of the 2014 MLB Draft. With the Astros drafting A.J. Reed in the same draft, the Astros saw Davis more as a third baseman.

Previously drafted by the Tampa Bay in the 5th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of high school, Davis did not sign out of high school. In the interview with J.D. Davis, I’ll ask him questions about the draft process, his decision to attend college, and what he needs to work on before he reaches the majors.

Ranked by MLB.com as the 13th best Astros prospect, hit two two-run homers in a game on Wednesday. He then went on to hit his tenth home run of the season in last night’s loss to the Storm.

Davis has a slash line of .278/ .348/. 457/ .805 in 2015 prior to Friday night’s loss to the Storm. The other stats I can update without having to do too much math. Davis is hitting .281/ 10 HR/ 49 RBI’s/ 3 stolen bases. It’s funny that he stole a base last night because I asked him about his stolen base ability. (Stats from Baseball-Reference and MILB First-Pitch)

In a draft that led to the Astros not signing first round pick Brady Aiken, Davis and Reed could be really great finds for the Astros. I have also interviewed A.J. Reed and others below, feel free to browse through the other interviews.
