Phillies broadcast accuses Astros' Hunter Brown of disrespect towards Jose Altuve

During last night's game between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies, the Phillies broadcast seemed to think that Astros starter Hunter Brown was showing disrespect to his 2B Jose Altuve after a play being made in the bottom of the 4th inning with the Astros leading 6-4:

On the broadcast, the Phillies announce team believes that Brown is mocking Altuve for making a play. One inning earlier, Brown had surrendered 4 runs after allowing multiple ground ball base hits that found their way through the infield.

However, it would seem their insights are misguided. This appeared to be more of Brown sarcastically clapping that a ground ball found it's way to a fielder instead of sneaking into a hole for a base hit. Brown also spoke after the game of his frustration over the grounders that seemed to find all the holes in the third inning.

Here, Brown clearly expresses frustration with the situation and himself for surrendering a 4-0 lead granted to him in the top half of the inning on mostly softer contact ground ball hits. Brown also doesn't appear to be asked about the clapping incident, indicating that the reporters all present did not take it as any sign of disrespect towards Altuve, who reached the 2500 hit plateau in the top of the 3rd inning.

Brown also lauded his future Hall of Fame teammate at the end of his post-game scrum for reaching 2500 hits.

Previously, Hunter Brown had told the story of how Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman helped him in 2024 when he was struggling out of the gate despite having good stuff. Brown discusses how he went to Altuve seeking help on how he would face him, and then to Bregman on what he could do to address the situation:

Last season, Brown carried that success from the year before to a top-3 Cy Young Award finish. Last night's game was the first time in eight starts that Brown was changed with more than three earned runs. It was only the third time this season he was charged with more than three earned runs in an outing. While Brown has not been as dominant as he was last season, he has overcome a shoulder injury this season to post a very respectable 5-3 record and 3.52 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 92 innings.

With all of the previous evidence of a good relationship between Brown and Altuve, Brown's clear stated frustration about the soft contact hits that piled up on him in a four-run third inning, and Brown having absolutely no history of having issues with teammates or showing a teammate up in any manner, it would all certainly indicate that the Phillies broadcast team was way off base in their assessment of Brown being disrespectful towards Altuve.
