Houston Astros: Weekly Recap and Links
We are now 63 days away from Opening Day!
Or if you prefer a smaller timeframe than pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in only 17 days. At this point, the roster appears set for Florida. But that doesn’t mean all of the fun and speculation is postponed until then. Rumors and Signings still happen in late January as we found out with the Doug Fister signing late last week. The team also signed a few minor leaguers to contracts for depth purposes. And let’s not forget that the Houston Astros love a good bargain so be on the lookout for more dumpster diving.
Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers is one name being floated around as potential interest of the Astros. After all, there is a short- and long-term questions at catcher with Jason Castro in a contract year in 2016. And the team could benefit from another bat in the lineup, especially if certain players fail to meet expectations.
Even without additional acquisitions, the Astros appear to be set for 2016. The rotation now goes four-to-five strong without missing a beat. The offense should pick up where it left off last season, especially with a full season from Carlos Correa. Adding Ken Giles to the bullpen that also retained the services of Tony Sipp should continue to produce dividends.
