Houston Astros: Spring Training Schedule Released

March 4th against the Cardinals is slated as the 2016 spring training home opener for the Houston Astros.

While many folks are preparing for the holidays, over here at Climbing Tal’s Hill we are looking forward to the spring training. February 18th to be precise, which is ironically during the winter. But I digress. That is the date that pitchers and catchers report for the Astros and the unofficial start of spring for baseball fans.

And the Houston Astros, like many other teams, have just released their 2016 Spring Training schedule. To open the Grapefruit League action, the Astros will first face the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, FL on March 3rd followed by the home opener in Kissimmee against former NL Central rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, on March 4th.

The team will also host the likes of the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Miami Marlins during their 13-game home schedule. Also, the Astros will host the Milwaukee Brewers for a two-game exhibition series from March 31st-April 1st at Minute Maid Park before Opening Day in New York.

And don’t forget that this so happens to be the Astros final spring training in their Florida home of 32 years, Osceola County Stadium. Starting in 2017, the Astros will move into a joint spring training complex in West Palm Beach with the Washington Nationals. Which means that Carlos Correa and Dallas Keuchel will theoretically be in the same training complex as Bryce Harper and Max Scherzer. Let’s just say the trip planning to West Palm Beach in 2017 is already under way for this Astros blogger.

Needless to say, winter, er, I mean spring training is already circled on the calendar. If you want a chance to get to interact with the Astros players, attending spring training is a good idea. Most of the spring games are not on TV, so you will have to make the trip to Florida
