Mallee will take over as the Astros hitting instructor and Brocail will stay in his role as pitching coach. The coaching roles of Trembley and Clark have yet to be announced.

Mallee worked most recently as the Marlins hitting coach in 2010 and 2011. Prior to that he spent eight seasons as the Marlins minor league hitting coordinator. Mallee, 43, has a total of 17 years of coaching experience.

Trembley, who managed the Baltimore Orioles from 2007 to 2010, spent the last two seasons as a minor league field coordinator in the Atlanta Braves system. Clark also has big league managerial experience, having piloted the Astros for the final 13 games of the 2009 season. Both he and Trembley are candidates to replace Joe Pettini as bench coach. Pettini announced last night that he will not be returning to the club next season.

Expect these coaches’ roles to be defined in the next few days. Also, the rest of Porter’s staff should be in place within a week or so.
