The Astros are set to sign second round pick (42nd overall) A.J. Reed. The powerful left-handed hitting first-baseman told Fox 26 Sports’ Mark Berman that he will be in Houston to finalize the deal on Wednesday.

Reed is expected to sign for a bonus at or slightly above the slot value of $1.35 million that comes with the 42nd pick. Reed joins top pick Brady Aiken, who has reportedly agreed to a $6.5 million deal with the Astros.

The next big name draftee to sign could be Los Alamitos H.S. (Ca) product Jacob Nix. A hard commit to UCLA, the big right-hander could be close to reaching a deal with the Astros. Nix, who is good friends with Aiken is believed to be seeking a signing bonus of around $1 million.

Astros scouting director Mike Elias told Brian McTaggart he believes the chances of signing Nix are good.

"We knew going into the Draft he was going to be an expensive sign. Being we took him in the fifth round, we wouldn’t have taken him that early if we weren’t confident in the fact we were going to sign him. I am optimistic about that one."

The club has also signed their third round pick, Cal. State-Fullerton 3B J.D. Davis. McTaggart reports that Davis will receive a signing bonus of $748,600.
