It was a week that featured several tough losses and a couple of blowout wins for the Astros. There were a handful of players that made significant contributions, but one player stood head and shoulders above the rest. This week’s Star Performer Award goes to Wandy Rodriguez.

Rodriguez had a pair of outstanding outings, going seven innings in each. The only run that Wandy allowed can be contributed to some lackluster defense. Unfortunately that run cost Wandy the decision in a 1-0 game. Still, Magic Wandy lived up to his nickname and takes home this week’s hardware. Rodriguez allowed only eight hits and three walks in his fourteen innings of work during the week. Wandy notched his first win of the season today and lowered his ERA to 1.42 for the year.

Jose Altuve is this week’s runner-up. Altuve’s sliding catch of Matt Kemp‘s foul pop in the first inning of today’s game set the tone for the afternoon. Jose was 7 for 23 with three walks for the week, including a double, a triple, and two RBIs in Thursday’s big win in Washington.

Jordan Schafer gets honorable mention with a 7 for 23 performance of his own. Schafer’s first career grand slam was one of many highlights in today’s 12-0 trouncing of the Dodgers. Schafer also played stellar defense in centerfield as he has done all season.
