The Houston Astros‘ bullpen game on Tuesday was enough to get past the Boston Red Sox with a ninth inning resurgence from the offense. Jason Castro’s go-ahead single started the rally, while his heroics didn’t warrant a start for Game 5.

The Red Sox are sending Chris Sale to the mound, who started Game 1 as well. The left-hander probably sent Castro to the bench, while the catcher slashed .180/.281/.280 in 59 plate appearances against lefties in the regular season.

Martin Maldonado has only one knock this postseason but hit .212/.294/.372 against lefties during the regular season. Once Framber Valdez’s outing is over, it would behoove the Astros to hand the reins off to Castro.

Jake Meyers’ injury has gotten worse over the last couple days, as he tries to work back. Manager Dusty Baker says Meyers can’t be removed from the roster, since he has an existing injury, as reported by Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle.

Astros Pitcher Today: Framber Valdez

Framber Valdez picks up his second start of the ALCS in Game 5, while his Game 1 start didn’t go to plan. The left-hander exited after only 2.2 innings on 64 pitches. Valdez allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks, while only striking out two in the process.

Astros Starting Lineup

Centerfield splits against left-handed pitchers:

Jose Siri: .333/.412/.667 (17 PA)

Chas McCormick: .244/.330/.500 (91 PA)

Siri’s sample size is much smaller, so defensive range and speed could be factors for the start.

Red Sox vs. Astros Prediction Today

The Astros’ bullpen showed out in Game 4 of the ALCS, so the arm usage will be different heading into Game 5. Backed behind a quality start by Valdez, the Astros’ offense will jump all over Sale again and take Game 5.
