Astros: What to look out for in the April promotional schedule

The Houston Astros have a stacked April Promotional Schedule in the works, and while the season starts in the coming days, these are the big standouts. Like in years past, Tuesday Dollar Dog Night and Friday Night Fireworks will be a reoccurring theme for home games at Minute Maid Park in 2021. As April will have two Tuesday and two Friday home games slated in Houston, the Astros have much more planned.

The first home stand is on April 8, but the neat thing about promotions in 2021 is that if you don’t get a chance for one game in the series, then just go the next day because they will be distributed over a series. This is happening with two of the six giveaways in April, as there is a chance for fans to leave with some memorable items.

Here are the Astros’ 2021 April Promotional items for Minute Maid Park.

April 8: Opening Series vs. Oakland Athletics

This promotion is a given. As the season opens from the home team’s ballpark, we can expect the Schedule Magnet. While having Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman bordering the 2021 schedule, it will be a quick goer as only the first 5,000 fans will be getting it. Remember, there will be limited seating in 2021 at Minute Maid Park to open the season.

April 9-10: Opening Series vs. Oakland Athletics

The Astros didn’t have the chance to celebrate their American League pennant in 2020, and rightfully so, they will be doing it at the home opener in 2021. As they give out a replica of the 2019 AL Champions Trophy to the first 10,000 fans, this promotion looks to be one of the most abundant this season.

April 12-14: Second home stand vs. Detroit Tigers

While it feels like a slight jab at our friends up North, the Astros are giving away Justin Verlander 2019 Cy Young Bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans on the days listed above. After acquiring the right-hander in 2017, the Astros have been to four consecutive American League Championship Series and two World Series. Unfortunately, Verlander will not be able to pitch against his former employer. This series will also be AJ Hinch’s homecoming.

April 23: vs. Los Angeles Angels

While Jose Altuve had a regressed 2020 campaign from injuries to personal battles, the 2017 MVP did standout in the postseason once again. As the Astros are giving out Jose Altuve ALCS MVP Bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans, he looks to have a bounce back year. Like other award statues, this miniature version of Altuve comes with the All-Star holding his award like Verlander’s.

April 24: vs. Los Angeles Angels

In a packed month of bobbleheads, here is the final one to look out for. Although only playing in two games in 2020, Yordan Alvarez did with the AL Rookie of the Year in 2019, which in return, gets him his own bobblehead for the first 10,000 fans. The left-hander is portrayed mashing a home run in front of his award, which we hope to see many times this season.

April 25: vs. Los Angeles Angels

This will be a packed series for the Astros, as they are giving away three promotional items over the series. With this promotion, the first 10,000 fans will receive a replica White Jose Altuve Jersey. As this has been a reoccurring promotion over the past couple years, it is always fun to throw them on when inside Minute Maid Park. Giving away the former MVP’s jersey makes sense, as Altuve ranked 19th in jersey sales since the conclusion of the 2020 World Series.
