Houston Astros star Alex Bregman is having the best season of his young career and considered a top candidate for Most Valuable Player of the Year Award.

It seems like Alex Bregman has been with the Astros for quite some time now, a seasoned professional. But the star third baseman is just in his fourth season here in Houston and only his third full season.

In that short amount of time, Bregman has established himself as one of the most productive, consistent, and reliable players on the team and was rewarded for his efforts by a $100 million six-year contract extension prior to the beginning of the season

Bregman has improved as a player every season he has been in the Major Leagues and this season is no exception. Almost across the board, his numbers this year are the best in his career. He’s slashing .294/.415/.575 with an OPS of .989, all career-highs. He has already eclipsed his highest number of home runs (35), runs scored (111), and walks (103) and tied the number of RBIs (103).

His 7.1 WAR, 156 OPS+, and 162 wRC+ are all the best he’s achieved so far in his career. These all look like MVP numbers and they do rank him up there at the top of the contenders. Unfortunately, there is a player named Mike Trout that is having a tremendous season and is the favorite for the award. Coincidentally, Trout signed a lucrative contract extension on the same day as Bregman.

In most seasons, his performance could easily win an MVP Award and he’s getting plenty of attention. In the latest poll taken, Trout is way ahead getting all 32 first-place votes, but Bregman has a good showing receiving all 32 second-place votes.

Some would argue that Bregman should have the upper hand being on one of the best teams in baseball vs Trout, a member of the Angels who are currently 27.5 games back in the division. But in any case, we all know how valuable Bregman is to this team. He’ll be the MVP in our hearts and will probably be awarded the MVP for the Astros this season.
