The Astros 10-day Injured List continues to grow as Collin McHugh joins five of his teammates. Jose Urquidy has been recalled to fill the roster spot

McHugh is experiencing discomfort in his right elbow, the same problem that put him on the Injured List back on May 21st. He was out for over a month before returning to pitch in his first game on June 25. Jose Urquidy has been called up from AAA Round Rock to take his slot in the Astros bullpen.

McHugh faced just two batters when he was inserted into last night’s game in place of Wade Miley. He surrendered a double to Bo Bichette before getting Cavan Biggio to strike out to close out the inning. A.J. Hinch was planning to get more innings out of McHugh but the soreness in his elbow cut that short.

The issue with the elbow began to resurface a couple of weeks ago and he’s been trying to pitch through the pain. Hinch doesn’t want to take any chances and placed him on the 10-Day Injured List. He wants to try and get as many of the players healthy by the end of the month for the playoff run.

"“The good thing with this team is there have been guys all season who have stepped up and filled the void when guys have taken their hacks,” McHugh said. “September is right around the corner, and we know that we’re going to have some reinforcements to help us out until we all get healthy, but the plan is to have everybody healthy at the right time and play our best ball down the stretch.”"

Urquidy has appeared in five games this season as a starter. He is 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA in 23 innings of work. This will be his third call-up of the season. The future does look a little brighter with Josh James very close to returning to the club and Ryan Pressly is slowly starting up his throwing program.
