Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel hit grand slams for the Astros on Friday night, helping the Houston Astros win over the Seattle Mariners by the score of 10-6.
After a perfect six-game homestand, the Astros began their second road trip of the season in Seattle versus the Mariners, who hold the best record in baseball. The Mariners came into the series with a six-game win streak of their own.
Friday night Altuve was at it again. With the team down one run in the sixth inning, he hit a grand slam to give the Astros a 6-3 lead. After Seattle scored two runs in the seventh to make it 6-5, Yuli Gurriel hits the second grand slam of the night for the Houston, putting them up 10-5.
Wade Miley gave up three runs in his four innings of work, but left the game with the Astros down only one run, thanks to George Springer‘s two-run homer in the third. Brad Peacock made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen and gave up two runs, but was able to pick up his second win of the season. After allowing a couple of base runners on in the 9th, Chris Devenski was replaced by Roberto Osuna, who picked up his 5th save.
This was the third time in franchise history that the Astros hit two grand slams in one game. Altuve, who hit the first one, has now homered in 4 straight games. Tonight’s home run for Gurriel was his first of the season.
Houston is now on a seven-game winning streak, the last two without Alex Bregman, who is dealing with a hamstring issue. Bregman will possibly be back in the lineup tonight, which features a matchup between Justin Verlander and Felix Hernandez.
