The Astros defeat the Yankees 3-2 in dramatic fashion, led by Dallas Keuchel’s pitching, Carlos Correa’s bat and Jake Marisnick gunning down Jacoby Ellsbury on his way to the plate.

Not only was this a great game, but it opens the door to what will be a great series and a great challenge for the Astros. With plenty of postseason implications included in this matchup, the Astros will face a team of similar characteristics. The Yankees will push this club to face adversity, which is what they overcame last night.

The Yankees Are Contenders

It is hard to deny that the Yankees are carrying a ton of steam heading into this series. This team is young, playing hard and winning in grand fashion. The offensive output is high, the belief is growing, and the confidence is rising.

This team is made up of young guns, much like our Astros. It is clear the Yankees are approaching baseball operations differently with the formation of this team. Most notably, Ken Davidoff of The Washington Post wrote of six reasons this Yankees team is a contender, see link below:

The Astros Are The Target

You don’t go 24-11, the best start in franchise history, without carrying some heat. This team is setting the bar for the American League. The Astros are led by stellar pitching from Dallas Keuchel, who was pressured in the 5th and 6th inning.

However, Keuchel hung tough and found ways to maintain the lead. Carlos Correa and Josh Reddick continue to lead the offensive attack. Ken Giles was pushed to the limit in the 9th inning and was forced to battle against this lineup. All in all, there is an aura around this team, and the expectations climb as the winning continues.

Show Us who You Are

This is the perfect test for our Astros. They head to the Bronx as the team to beat in the American League, facing a young, confident team in the Yankees. They will play in an atmosphere known for testing the nerves of the opponent. This series has a Mid-October vibe. We may be witnessing a prequel to what could potentially be an ALCS showdown.

Next: Astros will clash with the Yankees for early season AL supremacy

Bottom line, we get to see two of the best teams in baseball collide in a series that will include a lot of emotion, energy, and competition, easily felt from last night’s game.
