Talking Stros About Alex Bregman’s Debut with the Astros
Good morning, I hope that I am the first one to wish you a Happy Alex Bregman day. Following the Houston Astros 13-3 whooping of the Angels, A.J. Hinch announced that Bregman would get his call-up to the big leagues, three days later than we all thought. In the grand scheme of things, those three days won’t matter because the Astros swept the Angels.
Starting today, the Astros will face a contending team in the New York Yankees and then the Detroit Tigers later in the week.
The Astros did not call up Bregman Friday because he did not get any fly balls hit to him in his first two games, so they wanted to give him another game in the outfield and at third base. Hinch mentioned that he got a few more games, but now it was his time to join the Astros. Unfortunately, Bregman did not see any fly balls hit to him in the outfield in three games in the minors. This is hard to imagine with all the fly balls hit at Minute Maid Park regularly to left field.
The Astros had hoped that he got some on the job training over the weekend in Fresno, but as we talked about on @TalkingStros last night, the Astros needed his bat in the lineup versus the Yankees. Where will Bregman play during his debut? Where will he hit? This has not been announced, but A.J. Hinch mentioned in Brian McTaggart’s article that he will play third base, left field, and designated hitter in his time with the Astros.
