Mayor Annise Parker on Astros: “The season sucked”

Houston Mayor Annise Parker happened to be in Boston for a mayors conference at the same time the Astros came to town to take on the Red Sox. While taking in batting practice at Fenway Park before Thursday evening’s game, the mayor was asked about her thoughts on the Astros season. What came next was classic.

"The season sucked!"

The leader of the nation’s fourth largest city chimed in with a response that rings true with many an Astros fan. Sure, lots of Astros fans share in her frustration, but choosing to use the past tense of the verb seemed like a bit of a cheap shot. I mean, there are still 40 games left to play. Let’s not give up so easily.

The mayor also mentioned that she is among the majority of Houstonians unable to watch the Astros on TV. That explains why she thought the season was over. No local coverage.

The mayor added that she’s excited about the possibility that games may soon be broadcast in more local households. (And by soon we mean next season)

Mayor Parker leaves the city of clam chowder and Sweet Caroline on Friday. Hopefully she will be welcomed back in her home city, despite her blunt comments about our favorite baseball team.
