Earlier today the Astros placed reliever Anthony Bass on the 15-day disabled list and recalled recently exiled closer Josh Fields from AAA Oklahoma City.

Bass said he strained the rib cage muscle while warming up yesterday.

The right-hander, acquired from San Diego during the offseason, has appeared in 15 games for the Astros. Bass has a 1.22 WHIP and a 4.50 ERA in 18 innings. He has a low number of both walks (4) and strikeouts (5). Bass joins fellow relievers Jesse Crain and Matt Albers on a suddenly crowded disabled list.
Crain is supposed to start throwing soon and hopes to be game ready by the end of the month. Albers has experienced a setback and received a cortisone injection today. He is expected to be out for another three or four weeks.
And there is yet another Astros pitcher that will be headed to the D.L. Jose Cisnero has been scheduled for Tommy John surgery next week and will miss the rest of the season.
Fields returns to the Astros ‘pen having thrown three hitless innings in three appearances for Oklahoma City, including a save in Tuesday’s 1-0 win. We will have to wait and see how Bo Porter decides to utilize Josh. Bass had been pitching in high leverage situations. Gulp.
