Former Astros outfielder J.D. Martinez is back in the big leagues. Martinez, who was released by Houston last month, has been called up by the Detroit Tigers.

Joining back-to-back MVP Award winner Miguel Cabrera on a Detroit team that has won three straight N.L. Central titles has Martinez pumped up.

"Everything happens for a reason. I was just as excited when Detroit picked me up. There was a team that really wanted me. I’m super excited about the opportunity and to be in this clubhouse. When I look around, I’m in shock at the players that are in here. (h/t Jason Beck)"

Playing for the Tigers AAA affiliate Toledo Mud Hens, J.D. has been on fire so far this season. Martinez has blasted a minor league best 10 homeruns, including four in Saturday’s doubleheader. Martinez also leads the league in RBIs, total bases, and slugging. Fresh off his International League’s Batter of the Week Award, Martinez joined the Tigers for Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. In his Tigers debut, Martinez pinch-hit for Andrew Romine in the ninth inning, drawing a walk in Detroit’s 3-1 loss.
