Astros Acquire Anthony Bass

The Astros have acquired Anthony Bass along with a PTBNL from the San Diego Padres in exchange for a PTBNL or cash.
The Padres sent out a tweet this afternoon from the Winter Meetings:

— San Diego Padres (@Padres) December 11, 2013
The player to be named later is becoming a speciality of Jeff Luhnow. Anthony Bass is a former 5th round selection of the San Diego Padres from the 2008 amateur draft. In parts of three seasons in the majors, Bass has recorded an ERA of 4.08 with 18 games started. I anticipate Bass to join the Astros bullpen for the 2014 season.
This trade is likely more preparation for the Rule 5 draft and a case of “another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Bass was not very effective as a member of the Padres bullpen in 2013 compiling a 5.24 ERA despite the tendencies of PetCo Park to be pitcher-friendly.
With the move, the Astros 40-man roster is now at 38 players.
