The Javelinas appear to find themselves on a bit of a roll as they won again Wednesday afternoon. Peoria beat the Glendale Desert Dogs by the score of 7-5 to bring their record to 8-11 on the fall season.
Houston’s position players that were in the lineup for Peoria performed to mixed results, but their pitching prospects continued to have success. Let’s look at how the four Astros players did in the victory.
- Nolan Fontana was moved back to the second spot in the order, and he was able to get back to what he does well. Fontana came to the plate five times and was 2-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a strikeout. The performance brought the shortstop’s average back up to .167.
- Japhet Amador has arguably had the best performance this season of the position players, but today he went 0-4 bringing his average down to .295. Amador did have a sacrifice fly for his eighth RBI of the season.
- Jonathan Meyer‘s playing time has been inconsistent since he is a member of the taxi squad, but he did get the start on Wednesday. Meyer went 0-4 while reaching an error and scoring a run which brought his average to .200 on the fall.
- Jonas Dufek continued his strong fall as he pitched the seventh and the eighth innings to record his second hold. Dufek struck out two batters while walking one. His ERA now sits at 2.16 for the season.
