Alex Sogard got his first start of the fall on Tuesday against the Salt River Rafters, and the lefty emerged victorious. Peoria defeated the Rafters by a score of 5-3 as they improved to 5-7 on the season.

Let’s take a look at how Sogard and teammates did.

  • Japhet Amador was the only position player to appear in the game from Houston. Amador  got the start at the designated hitter spot, and the move down to the fifth spot in the order didn’t appear to phase him. The slugger went 3-5 with three singles showing that he is not just a one dimensional hitter seeing his average improve to .333 on the season.
  • Sogard earned his second win of the fall as his record now sits at 2-1 on the campaign. He started the game off with two perfect innings while striking out two batters. This brought his ERA down to 2.70. While the sample size is small, if Sogard keeps this up he will give the Astros something to think about for next season. At the very least, he might turn into a secondary trade chip.
