Arizona Fall League Summary: 10/11

Peoria took on the Salt River Rafters on Friday. The Javelinas won 5-3 to improve to 2-2 on the season. There were also some things to be excited about as an Astros fan.

  • Jonathan Meyer got the start at DH, and he made the most of it. Meyer was 1-3 with a walk and a strike out, but he made his one hit count. The third baseman hit a two run homer in the fourth inning to the tie the game at three for Peoria. Meyer then walked in the ninth inning as Peoria was attempting to add an insurance run. Nolan Fontana then pinch ran for his teammate and scored Peoria’s fifth run.
  • Delino DeShields once again got the start, and he continued the hot hitting. Since there are other players also trying to develop here, the centerfielder can’t bat lead off everyday. So instead, he batted ninth on Friday and went 2-4 with an RBI single bringing his average up to .455 on the season. As one blemish, he was thrown out stealing for the second time this fall.
  • Japhet Amador was given the day off on Friday.
  • Jonas Dufek was the only Astro pitcher to appear on the day, and he had another strong outing. Dufek pitched a scoreless eighth inning allowing one hit while also striking out the side.
