Josh Fields to DL, Paul Clemens Called Up, and More

The twittersphere was buzzing last night as reports were that Paul Clemens was coming up to the show. There was no official report as to where Clemens was headed. Was he being called up by the Astros? Dealt to another team who would call him up? No one knew. The Astros did not make an official announcement until this afternoon when they announced that Clemens would be joining the Astros, and RP Josh Fields would be put on the DL.

But there was more than just that over the last few days. Edgar Gonzalez, who the Astros DFA’d when they acquired Travis Blackley, was claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays.  Ross Seaton  was promoted from AA Corpus to AAA OKC and will replace Clemens in the tandem-rotation.  Carlos Quevedo has been promoted from Lancaster to replace Seaton. Utility player, Ruben Sosa was also assigned to OKC.

There were a few other moves including players hitting the 7-day DL. Jayne, from “What The Heck, Bobby” does a great job finding all the information on minor league transactions and found out that these players hit the 7-day DL: RHP Murilo Gouvea, RHP Chia-Jen Lo, RHP Kyle Weiland, LHP Sergio Escalona, LHP Kenny Long, C Max Stassi, 3B Andy Simunic, 3B Brandon Wikoff, OF Grant Hogue, OF Telvin Nash.

I’m sure we will continue to see many players being sent all over the Astros system, so make sure you keep up with all the Astros transactions.
