Earlier today, it was announced that the Astros had agreed to a trade with the Boston Red Sox that will net Garrett Mock, a RHP from the University of Houston for future considerations. He is being optioned to AAA Oklahoma City.
Mock is a native of Houston having attended both North Shore High School and The University of Houston. He was a third round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2004 MLB Draft. He has bounced around between the Diamondbacks, Nationals and Red Sox and has primarily worked as a relief pitcher throughout his minor league career. Mock missed most of the 2010 season with neck surgery. He was signed to a minor league deal by the Blue Jays last year but was released before ever throwing a pitch. He later signed on with the Red Sox.
So far this year with AAA Pawtucket of the Red Sox organization, he has posted a 3-2 record with a 3.33 ERA and 5 saves in 35 appearances over 48.2 innings.
