Alyson Footer leaves Astros for mlb.com

One of my favorite members of the Astros staff is moving on to greener pastures. Social Media Director Alyson Footer has taken a job with mlb.com. Alyson will still be based out of Houston but will now be covering all 30 MLB teams. Her first assignment will be covering the goings-on in Kansas City during the upcoming All-Star week.

Alyson started her career covering the Astros sixteen seasons ago. She moved to mlb.com once before but eventually returned to the team we all love. Footer has been with the club through good times and bad and has built quite a following along the way. Alyson has over 14,000 loyal followers on twitter. I am proud to say that @alysonfooter will always hold the distinction of being the first person I ever followed there.

In her role as Social Media Director, Alyson has been instrumental in bringing Astros fans closer to the team and the players. Alyson launched programs such as “social media night” to do just that. Alyson has helped promote a blogger-friendly atmosphere within the organization that sites like ours are extremely thankful for. Thanks to Alyson, our writers have been able to cover the team more closely than ever before, including opportunities to interview key team personnel at “FanFest” and “Blogger Night.”

Alyson will still be around on twitter and will continue to write Alyson’s Footnotes in addition to her new job with mlb.com. We wish Alyson all the best in her new endeavor. Whoever the Astros hire as her replacement will have some big shoes to fill.
