Astros sign third round pick Brady Rodgers
Tonight the Astros announced the signing of 2012 third-round draft pick Brady Rodgers. A RHP from Arizona State University, Rodgers is a graduate of Lamar Consolidated H.S. in nearby Rosenberg Tx. Rodgers is excited to be a part of the team he has been rooting for since childhood.
Rodgers has tremendous command of a four pitch arsenal that includes fastball, curve, slider, and changeup. In three seasons at ASU Rodgers walked only 36 batters. His 2.39 career ERA over 286 innings is the second best in school history. Rodgers held college hitters to a .223 batting average in three seasons with the Sun Devils. Brady was named to the first team all Pac-12 squad as a junior in 2012.
Rodgers was a Houston area prep standout at Lamar Consolidated, earning all-district honors four times and being named to the all-state team in both his junior and senior seasons. Brady was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 39th round of the 2009 draft but elected to attend ASU instead.
Rodgers could move through the Astros minor league system quickly and projects as a #3 or 4 starter in the majors.
