Today I’m teeing up a few stories that I hope Astros fans will find entertaining. Okay, they’re probably not nearly as entertaining as a day on the golf course, but I’m trying.
This weekend Alex suggested the Astros take a look at some of the more interesting minor league players that have recently become available. Alex profiled Russ Canzler, among others, as a
at 3B or a corner OF spot.
Today the Cleveland Indians acquired Canzler from Tampa Bay for cash considerations. That could mean Cleveland won’t be calling to ask about Carlos Lee any more. The Astros may have to try and find another trading partner if they intend on moving El Caballo.
The Astros did make a move today, acquiring veteran right-hander Livan Hernandez. The former World Series MVP was signed to a minor league deal and should compete with Zach Duke for the highest WHIP in league history.
Yesterday, Astros season ticket holders were overjoyed when they received an e-mail from Jim Crane that included a video message. In the message Crane squashed the ridiculous idea of changing the team’s name.
"The Astros are here to stay."
Brian McTaggart shares some quotes from Sig Mejdal and Jeff Luhnow that provide us some details on the role of a decision scientist.
