Jose Altuve stands tall at Futures Game

Astros prospect Jose Altuve was the starting second baseman for the World Team in today’s Future’s Game and did not disappoint. He went 2 for 3 with a double and showed the rest of the world what he has been doing in Lancaster and Corpus Christi all season.

He is generously listed as 5’7″ but no matter what his height, this kid can hit. He started the season at the Class A level playing for Lancaster and through 52 games hit a crazy .408 with five home runs and 19 stolen bases.

He has since moved up to Class AA and playing for Corpus Christi, where he is continuing to be a force at the plate hitting .353 with four home runs through only 33 games. He is definitely an interesting prospect as he has shown a great combination of power and speed.

I expect this second baseman to be up playing for the Astros within a year from now as he is one of the top middle infield prospects the Astros currently have. My own opinion, I would not be surprised to see this guy playing for the Astros by September, especially if Jeff Keppinger is traded at the deadline.
