Hunter Pence extends hitting streak to 21

There hasn’t been much for Astros’ fans to root for this year but Hunter Pence has been the exception to the rule. The guy has been playing lights out all season and is a sure fire All-Star this year. Well he has extended his hitting streak to 21 games after getting a single in the third. However, he left the game shortly after in the fourth with lower back tightness and hopefully it was nothing more than a precautionary measure.

This is not Pence’s first notable hit streak as he had a 15 game hit streak from April 26th to May 11th and from April 26th to tonight’s game he has hit safely in 38  of the past 42 games. Not to mention he has only gone hit less in back to back games three times all season. That is only six games in the first 64 games and after looking at these stats it should be no surprise that he is third in all of MLB in hits.

The pace Hunter Pence is on will break Craig Biggio‘s single season hit record of 210 set back in 1998. Right now Pence is on pace to get almost 213 hits and while it is a long season, Pence has been on quite a tear and has really matured at the plate. At the very least, it should keep Astros’ fans interested in this team into September.
