After getting snake bitten, Astros respond with 2 straight wins

Welcome to the big leagues, Mr. Lyles! I don’t think Jordan Lyles could of asked for a better night, other than maybe getting the win, as he pitched great in his first major league start. Astros fans have been waiting for almost two months for this night and Lyles did not disappoint, going 7.0 innings, striking out four while only giving up two runs. The best stat of the night for Lyles has to be no walks.

As for the offense, there is a saying that goes something like better late than never and that fits the bill for tonight. The Astros exploded for six runs in the ninth off Cubs’ closer Carlos Marmol. Matt Downs had a two run double that brought Brett Wallace and Chris Johnson home, followed by a Michael Bourn single that knocked Downs in. Hunter Pence cleaned up the bases with a three run home run that ended the scoring for the Astros in the ninth.

The Astros must really like the friendly confines of Wrigley Field as they have scored 19 runs over the past two games and the offense is really coming alive. Tonight, Hunter Pence and Brett Wallace carried the team as they combined for six hits, four RBI and two home runs.

The Astros will look to get their first series sweep this season tomorrow as they will turn to Brett Myers who will get the ball as he looks to turn his season around as he is off to a 1-4 start with an ERA over five.
