Star Performer of the Week May 23-29
A 2-4 homestand for the Astros last week included a three game sweep at the hands of the streaking Arizona Diamondbacks. Both wins came against the Dodgers and were of the walk-off variety. Michael Bourn and Angel Sanchez keyed a three run ninth on Monday. J.R. Towles provided the excitement Wednesday afternoon, breaking out of a long slump to deliver the game winning hit. Aneury Rodriguez had another nice start in Wednesday’s game. AnRod allowed only one run on four hits and a walk in six innings pitched. Jeff Keppinger came off the disabled list and went 3 for 8 in two games against the D-backs. Wandy and Quintero were lost to the 15 day D.L. during the week, weakening a team that is already mired in last place. But one player continued to shine and earned Star Performer of the Week. That player is…
Hunter Pence
The Astros right-fielder went 9 for 25 on the week and is currently riding a ten game hitting streak. Pence knocked in the winning run on Monday night and had three RBIs for the week. Hunter has been the team’s most consistent player and has appeared in all 53 games this season. He leads the team in several offensive categories including hits, doubles, homers, RBIs, and total bases. This is Hunter’s first Star Performer of the Week Award and he becomes the eighth different winner in eight weeks this season.
