Astros lose 4-1 to Brew Crew
Former Houston Astro Randy Wolf shut down the Astros in the deciding game of the series and helped the Brewers secure a 4-1 victory. Wolf went eight innings, striking out four and only gave up one run. The one run came in the eighth inning thanks to catcher J.R. Towles who hit a solo shot. But that was all they could muster as Wolf was in control, only allowing three Astros to get into scoring position. They were only able to get five hits and starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez had two of them. Bill Hall struggled the most going 0-3 with three strikeouts.
Wandy Rodriguez did not have an awful day on the mound but did struggle with the long ball as he gave up two solo shots in the second and third innings to Brandon Boggs and Rickie Weeks respectively. Wandy’s final stat line was 7.0 innings pitched, 10 hits, 4 earned runs while striking out 9. Enerio del Rosario came in for relief and pitched one inning and only gave up one hit. Even though this was a lose for the Astros, this was by far their best pitching effort this series but unfortunately Wolf was locked in and kept the Astros off balance.
The Astros will get a day off tomorrow before they welcome the first place Red Birds from St. Louis for a three game set at home.
