Astros take a bite out of the Big Apple and get a win

Wandy Rodriguez had his best game of the season and the Astros scored three runs in the 8th inning to secure a 6-1 win over the New York Mets. Before this game the Astros were 1-5 on the road so getting this win was good and hopefully will give them confidence through the rest of the series. The star of the game today had to be starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez who pitched 7 innings, striking out seven and only giving up three walks. His lone mistake of the night was giving up a long ball to former Houston Astro Carlos Beltran.

The Astros pitching staff as a whole had a good night as they were able to keep the Mets in check, only giving up four hits. Fernando Abad and John Fulchino combined for two innings pitched, only giving up one hit and Abad registering one strikeout. The pitchers were dialed in tonight throwing strikes on 62 percent of their pitches. Wandy was able to get his first win of the season and is now 1-2.

The Astros have quietly start playing much better at the plate as they have now scored over four runs in nine of the past ten games. Before this game they ranked 11th in team batting average, 14th in runs scored, and 12th in hits. The Astros actually got at least one hit from every starter tonight except Hunter Pence and Chris Johnson. JR Towles had another great game as he went 2 for 2 with two walks and one run scored and one RBI. Towles is now hitting .429 for the season. Another good sign was to see Carlos Lee go 2 for 4 and has raised his average up to .250 after a couple of good games at the plate.

Overall, it was a good game for the Astros and a good night to be an Astros fan. They will look to win back to back games for the first time this season as Bud Norris takes the mound against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
