Brett Myers get his first win of the season
The Astros were able to get back to even with the Cubs in the three game series with a 11-2 win on Tuesday night. This puts the Astros in position to win their first series of the season with a win tomorrow night. Brett Myers had another strong showing but this time will be credited with the win. He went 7.0 innings only giving up one run on eight hits and had five strikeouts. The best part of his stat line though is that he didn’t give up a single walk.
The offense once again had a great showing putting up double digit runs for the first time this season on 16 hits. Hunter Pence was the big bat in this game going 3 for 5 with four RBIs. Angel Sanchez continues to have a great start to the season going 4 for 5, scoring 2 runs, and adding 2 RBI. Humberto Quintero was a home run away from the cycle and he scored two runs as well. Carlos Lee and Chris Johnson were the only starting Astros not to register a hit tonight.
The Astros jumped out to an early lead and tagged Cubs starting pitcher James Russell for 5 runs in only 1.2 innings of work and the bullpen struggled after that giving up an additional 6 runs, including John Grabow who gave up four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Astros were able to improve on RISP, which has been not been good for the Astros in the early part of the season, went 9 for 20 tonight. The Astros pitching staff held the Cubs to 1 for 15 with RISP.
The Astros are back tomorrow for the final game in this series as Wandy Rodriguez takes on Carlos Zambrano in an 8 PM (ET) start. Hopefully the Astros can get back to back wins for the first time this season. If they play like they did tonight, you got to love their chances.
