News for the Astros and Castro goes from Bad to Worse

Well what was thought of as a bad knee injury for Jason Castro, just got worse as it is now being reported he had surgery to fix a torn ACL and he will be out for most or all the regular season. Castro suffered the knee injury in the game Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers trying to avoid a tag as he went to first. This is definitely a sad situation for Jason Castro and the Houston Astros organization.

The question is now what should the Astros do about the catcher position. They have two catchers in camp right now with major league experience in Humberto Quintero and J.R. Towles, who I talked in length about yesterday here. The problem is that the two catchers combine for a .221 average and only 21 HRs and that just won’t get the job done this season. I hope GM Ed Wade is working the phones and talking to free agent catcher Bengie Molina, who is still looking for a team. I would go as far to promise him the starting job if he signs with us. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
