Wallace Leads Astros to Rain-Shortened Win

Brett Wallace showed off his power today with a long 2-run shot to deep left-center to lead the Astros to a 4-1 victory in five innings. That was Wallace’s lone hit of the day, but it was enough to get the win for the Astros.

David Martinez started the game for Houston, and did a good job limiting the damage. The Marlins left 14 men on base in just five innings. In 4 innings of work, Martinez allowed 8 hits, 1 run, and struck out two. Jose Veras allowed 2 hits in the 5th, but did not allow the Marlins to score, and got the save when the game was announced as final.

Besides Wallace, the Astros got nice contributions from the rest of the lineup. Rick Ankiel had a 2-2 day scoring a run. Fernando Martinez doubled in the 2nd inning, scoring Ankiel. Later in the inning, Matt Dominguez got the sac-fly, scoring Martinez. Ronny Cedeno went 1-2 with a triple in his Astros spring training debut.

The Astros will play the Nationals tomorrow at 5:05 PM.
