Rockies’ Geivett emerges as the favorite to be the next Astros’ GM

Late Tuesday night Danny Knobler sent out a tweet that shook the Astros fanbase, a leader in the clubhouse has emerged for the vacant GM spot. Bill Geivett appears to be the front runner to lead the ‘Stros into the future. Geivett was the first acknowledged candidate to be interviewed and had a number of positive words to say about the city and franchise. This GM search had been a lot more secretive than the prior process that saw Ed Wade beat out Ruben Amaro Jr. for the position but names began to leak out shortly after their interview process got going.

Logan White has probably been the most high profile GM candidate to be interviewed by the Astros, to this point, but all of the candidates so far have had strong scouting and development backgrounds. Geivett has paid his dues and appears ready to take on the position of lead guy for a club that will emphasize those very skills. Will Geivett be in place before the Winter Meetings end? Perhaps Logan White or J.J. Picollo did well enough in their interview stay in the running. Either way, the Astros will probably give it a few more days of consideration before naming their new GM? Stay tuned.
