Astros sign another minor league free agent and possibly look for a DH

The Houston Astros continue to stockpile minor league free agents. On Tuesday they signed 27 year old Scott Moore to a minor league deal. Moore has had very minimal time at the major league level with the Cubs and Orioles over his 10 year professional career. Much like Ed Wade’s prior signings, Moore is a versatile utility type who can play the infield and outfield. His minor league numbers show good on-base skills with some power.

An interesting day of Astros’ rumors continued as Jon Morosi tweeted a cryptic message this afternoon that may give fans a glimpse into the future.

"jonmorosi Jon MorosiIf #Astros are going to be an AL club in 2013, they need to start thinking about a DH at some point. And that is what the off-season is for."

If the Astros are truly looking for DH options, anticipating a move to the AL, it would be refreshingly forward thinking. Combine that with Jon Heyman’s early tweet, the Astros may end up making a bigger splash on the free agent market than expected.
