The Astros started off the road trip right with a four game winning streak. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep up the ruse and lost the next three to the lowly Padres. Hunter Pence went deep in the first two wins against the Cubs. Pence has stayed hot and is now riding a seventeen game hitting streak and becomes our first repeat winner by nabbing his second straight Star Performer Award. Pence scored six runs and drove in six in seven games. He is now hitting .310 with 44 RBIs for the year.

Michael Bourn had a nice week to earn runner up honors. Number 21 banged out eleven hits in 31 at-bats from the leadoff position. Bourn had at least one hit in each of the seven games and stole seven bags along the way.

Mark Melancon earns honorable mention with two saves in five appearances. The Astros closer struck out seven while allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, and one run in five innings pitched. It will be interesting to see if Melancon will stay in the role when Brandon Lyon returns from the D.L. Lyon could return on the upcoming homestand that starts tomorrow when Brett Myers takes the mound against Jake Westbrook and the division leading Cardinals.
