Unlike the rookie hitters that have struggled to adjust to major league pitching, Musgrove has come in and dominated opposing hitters in his first two appearances. Replacing the injured McCullers in the starting rotation, he can pitch his way into a spot in the 2017 rotation.

More from Astros News

In his first 11.1 innings of work, Musgrove has been sensational. He has given up only one earned run on six hits and a walk, striking out 14. Using his mid-nineties sinker, Musgrove carved through the Rangers lineup in his first career start on August 7th, giving up an earned run on five hits.

His next opponent will be a familiar one. His next start will be Friday, August 12th against the team that drafted him in 2011, and who he made his debut against, the Blue Jays. Relieving McCullers after he got hurt on August 2nd, Musgrove threw 4.1 remarkable innings striking out eight and allowing only one hit. Now, he has a 0.79 ERA, a 0.62 WHIP with a .150 average against.

Already with a familiar opponent in his third career advantage will give Musgrove the advantage, especially against a team that either strikes out or hits a home run. Sound familiar?
