]]> On July 24, the Astros traded Wandy Rodriguez, the last remaining player from their 2005 World Series team, to the Pirates. At the time of the trade, Wandy was 7-9 with a 3.79 ERA in 21 starts. In return, the Astros received Houston native, OF Robbie Grossman, LHP Colton Cain and LHP Rudy Owens. The Pirates wanted Wandy to help solidfy their rotation as they made a push for the playoffs and in return, the Astros received three more prospects to add to their vastly improved farm system. We’ll take a look at how each player involved did after the jump.

]]> While the Reds and Giants clinched their respective divisions with wins on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Pirates continued their assault on the record for most consecutive losing seasons. The Astros 4-1 win over Pittsburgh dropped the Buccos to 74-77 on the year. After staying in contention for the first five months the Pirates now appear to be headed for their twentieth losing season in succession. Yes, an entire generation of Pirates fans can identify with their team as nothing more than loveable losers.
