]]> The Philadelphia Phillies have traded former Astro Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants for Nate Schierholtz and two minor leaguers. Pence became a member of the Phillies exactly one year ago today, when the Astros dealt him away at the trade deadline. Pence immediately became a fan favorite in the city of brotherly love due to his all-out hustling style of play. Pence helped the Phillies claim their fifth straight N.L. East title in 2011 by hitting .324/.394/.560 in 54 games down the stretch and jump-starting a struggling offense.

Lidge had an ugly 9.64 ERA and an even uglier 2.464 WHIP for the season after a couple of rough outings this weekend. Lidge allowed multiple earned runs in four of his eleven relief appearances with the Nationals this season and is no longer a part of the N.L. East leader’s future plans.
