]]> The offensively-challenged Pittsburgh Pirates were unable to score tonight against Bud Norris and three Astros relievers. Houston’ Brian Bogusevic crossed the plate on a second inning double-play ball for the game’s only run. Pirate’s starter James McDonald had an excellent outing and was deserving of a better fate. McDonald allowed only four hits and two walks while striking out eight in eight innings pitched. Run support has been an issue for McDonald, who dropped to 2-2 for the year despite a 2.42 ERA.

]]> In a game with as many twists and turns as a Shawn White halfpipe run the Pirates prevailed over the Astros 5-4. Houston hitters sleepwalked through the first six innings making Pittsburgh starter James McDonald look like Nolan Ryan. J.A. Happ pitched around trouble and the Astros trailed 2-0 going into the seventh. That’s when Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle made a puzzling decision and removed McDonald from the game.
