Altuve Placed on Bereavement List; Elmore Called Up

It was reported today by Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle that Jose Altuve will be placed on the Bereavement List following the death of his grandmother in Venezuela. Altuve was listed as questionable to start tonight’s game after suffering a subluxed right jaw from a collision with outfielder Jimmy Paredes in last night’s game.

Ronny Cedeno: Not Wanted

When spring training started, the Astros seemed to be going with a platoon of Tyler Greene and Marwin Gonzalez. Things changed on March 19th when the Cardinals announced that they released Ronny Cedeno. Five days later the Astros went ahead and signed Cedeno to a 1-year deal. Cedeno was expected to be the starter for the Astros this season, though things have changed in the last few weeks. (more…)

Leading Off

The Houston Astros are still searching for their 2013 leadoff hitter. Bo Porter said earlier this month that he would prefer second baseman Jose Altuve (who finished last season as the leadoff hitter) to hit second in the order. The two names that have been mentioned again and again to fill the spot are shortstop candidates Tyler Greene and Marwin Gonzalez. A couple of other guys that may make much more sense would be Jake Elmore and Robbie Grossman, but their chances of making the team are pretty slim. Since all four of these guys played in Saturday’s first Spring Training game, let’s take a look at their performances.
