Playoff bound Hooks sweep San Antonio

In case you haven’t heard yet, the Astros AA affiliate Corpus Christi Hooks clinched a playoff spot with a 5-2 win over San Antonio on Saturday. Jake Goebbert‘s two-run homer in the first inning set the tone early and Paul Clemens held the Missions to one run on three hits through six innings. Kevin Chapman and Jason Stoffel came out of the bullpen to finish things off and the Hooks celebrated on the diamond at Whataburger Field. It had to be a great feeling for those associated with the team that had labored through a dismal 2011 season.

Astros Complete Trade with Blue Jays

In a trade that was agreed upon back on July 20, the Astros have officially received SP Kevin Comer as the player to be named later in the trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, officially completing the mega deal. Comer completes the ten player deal which sent J.A. Happ, Brandon Lyon and David Carpenter to Toronto for Francisco Cordero, Ben Francisco and minor leaguers Joe Musgrove, Asher Wojciechowski, David Rollins and Carlos Perez. Comer has reported to Greeneville to finish out the season.

I’ll Tell You Why Call-Ups Haven’t Been Made…

I’ve seen a ton of tweets, articles, and blogs written asking why several of the Astros top performing prospects, specifically Matt Dominguez, Jimmy Paredes and Brandon Barnes, have not yet been called up. Before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the speculation was that these players would be called up to help a team struggling to win games. The non-waiver trade deadline came and went and only Brett Wallace was called up. Fans have been scratching their heads and throwing their arms up in both confusion and frustration. Our big league team has struggled to score runs yet some players at AAA are scoring and producing runs easily. So, the question remains, why haven’t these (and other) players been called up yet? The answer is simple, because the trade deadline isn’t over yet.
