Matt Albers has setback

Astros reliever Matt Albers was held out of his scheduled simulated game yesterday. Albers probably won’t throw again until next week when the team returns to Houston.

Albers joins Jesse Crain on the list of high priced relievers that have spent little or no time on a big league mound this season. The Sugar Land native talked to Evan Drellich about his decision to scale back his injury rehabilitation.

"Yeah just hopefully not really a step back,  just not really a move forward. Just didn’t feel like the right decision to try to push it today, throw full out, a sim game. Just give it a little bit more time. Kind of disappointed, a little frustrated."

At least the Astros got some good news. Drellich also reports that Asher Wojciechowski is on schedule to throw in an extended spring training game in Florida today. Wojo has been out since February with a strained right lat muscle.

Meanwhile, Delino DeShields Jr. returned to action with a bang. Two bangs, to be exact. Making his first appearance for AA Corpus Christi since taking a fastball to the jaw three weeks ago, DeShields homered in each of his first two at-bats. DeShields is now hitting .276/.391/.534 in 15 games with the Hooks. It’s great to see him back in action and swinging the bat with confidence and authority.
