Mark Appel update

Mark Appel, continuing to work his way back from emergency appendectomy surgery, threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday morning. Throwing for the first time in ten days, Appel said he felt good after the session.

The top pick in last year’s draft, Appel is happy to be in his first big league camp and eager to see game action. But the Astros are exercising caution with Appel — and understandably so. Jeff Luhnow said last week that Mark could appear in multiple games before Spring Training is over. That still remains to be seen.

After today’s 10-9 walkoff win over the Nationals, Appel was feeling good enough to head out to a local eatery with one of the stars of the game. Jason Castro drove in three runs with a double and a homerun and still had time to take this awesome photo of his fellow Stanford alum enjoying some dessert.
