Nolan Ryan meets with Astros brass

A little less than a week ago it was rumored that Nolan Ryan could be joining the Astros front office team. Today, the all-time strikeout leader officially met with the Astros brass to discuss the possibility.

Jose de JesusOrtiz was the first to report that such a meeting had taken place earlier today at Minute Maid Park. Ryan reportedly met with a contingent that included principal owner Jim Crane, G.M. Jeff Luhnow, and team president Reid Ryan (Nolan’s son). According to Ortiz, the elder Ryan seems intrigued by the idea of working alongside his son in the organization that both men have a special bond with.

"I think it would be exciting to work with Reid in the Astros organization. The Astros have always had a special place in our hearts. Reid grew up around the Astros organization."

The details of Ryan’s official title and duties have not been released to the media. My guess is —  everything has already been discussed and the information isn’t going to be released unless he takes the job.

Either way, Ryan said he plans on making his decision before Spring Training starts. That doesn’t leave him much time. It’s only 18 days until pitchers and catchers report to Kissimmee!
