According to new Astros beat writer Evan Drellich, Jim Crane has been in contact with Nolan Ryan. The All-Time Strikeout King and former Astro resigned his post as the CEO of the Texas Rangers on Halloween to spend more time with his family. Crane has yet to offer Nolan a job but says “that certainly could be a possibility down the road”.

I’m not sure where Ryan would fit in the Astros organization, or even if he has the desire. I would assume that he would take on a considerably smaller role with the Astros, perhaps similar to that of former players like Larry Dierker and Jimmy Wynn.

Thursday’s S.E.L.F. Foundation fundraiser hosted by Bo Porter was a source for some interesting Astros tidbits. We found out that Andre Dawson almost became the team’s hitting instructor and that he believes Jeff Bagwell belongs in the Hall of Fame.
