It is the first weekend of the offseason but there are still plenty of baseball stories to talk about. Here are a few links to help you keep up to date with what’s going on.
A while back we wondered if Brad Ausmus might be the favorite for the managerial job in Detroit. Multiple sources are reporting that Ausmus will indeed be named the next Tigers’ manager.
Despite the lack of managerial experience, Ausmus is very highly regarded for his baseball acumen and leadership skills. He has been considered a future manager since his playing days and recently interviewed for the Cubs’ vacant managerial seat.
My draft experience was very good but also a little surprising. I had never talked to the Astros besides a medical questionnaire. I was a senior sign for the Astros. I had never talked to any teams before this year and had only spoken to one other team this year.
There will be some more Astros branding outside the ballpark and around the ballpark to highlight that relationship. It’s likely that we’ll have some promotions here and there highlighting the fact that we’re now owned by our parent club.
Though winning isn’t the priority in the Minor Leagues, it can indicate depth of talent. The Astros’ U.S. based-affiliates led the Minors with a .570 winning percentage this year and six of them qualified for playoffs, a feat no organization had accomplished since the Pirates in 2003.
