The Astros got off to a great start this week, winning four straight before dropping two to the Angels over the weekend. The offense was on fire in Seattle and a few players put themselves in contention for weekly honors.

Jonathan Villar was a major contributor during the 3-game sweep in Seattle. Villar earns honorable mention for his dismantling of the Mariners. The rookie shortstop showed off his exciting combination of speed and power, blasting his first big league homer on the first pitch of Tuesday’s game and stealing four bases in the series. For the week Villar was 10 for 27 (.370) with three walks, five runs scored and four RBIs.

Matt Dominguez is this week’s runner-up. Matty D’s grand slam was the big blow in Friday night’s win over the Angels. For the week he was 8 for 20 with four walks, four runs scored and six RBIs.

This week’s runaway winner is Jose Altuve. The Astros second-baseman was 12 for 27 with a homer, six RBIs, and six runs scored. He also swiped four bases, giving him a total of 35 for the season. It was just another great week in what has been a truly incredible month of September for Altuve. Jose now has nine multi-hit games and is batting .435 for the month.

Let’s hope the upcoming week produces just as many special performances. The Astros have a full slate of games, hosting the Reds for three before traveling to Cleveland for a 4-game set against the Indians.
